Talk: CERN and the Large Hadron Collider
Steve Oliver

CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, straddles the French-Swiss border just west of the city of Geneva. Here the Worlds largest particle accelerators are housed in tunnels up to 27 km in circumference and 100m below the surface.

A brief description of the history of CERN leading up to the latest accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider - LHC, which reproduces conditions existing at the creation of the Universe – the “Big Bang” 13.7 billion years ago, will be presented.
