Simon will briefly explain his career path from Diesel Engine Specialist at Ricardo to owner of a small company manufacturing precision components for the aerospace, semiconductor, medical and F1 industries and his volunteer roles as a Justice of the Peace (Magistrate) for West Sussex for 15 years, and his 11 year and ongoing committment to the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Trust. (KSAAT).
The focus of KSAAT is to save lives and mitigate the impact of life-threatening medical conditions when every second counts. KSSAAT operate 24/7, 365 days a year.KSSAAT is a team of skilled, sector-leading experts responding to over 3,100 incidents annually across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex with the ability to reach any location within 30 minutes.
The helicopters are flying emergency rooms bringing specialised doctors, paramedics and treatment including open heart surgery and emergency anaesthesia to those who need it most.
The talk will cover how we rapidly identify and respond to patients with potentially life-threatening conditions, the logistics of having a fleet of 3 helicopters to ensure that 2 are available to be on call at any time. The continual development of our aviation and operational procedures to enable us to fly in adverse weather conditions will be discussed.
Ongoing medical research is continually providing new and improved procedures and equipment which help the medical crew identify the requirements of each patient accurately.
Rapid transfer of critically ill patients to a Major Trauma Hospital is vital and this involves the complex considerations around the use of Helipads on such buildings. This will also be discussed.
